Party!! πππ₯π
Open with Prayer: God, we thank you for this time together, for the technology that makes it possible, and the hearts that connect us. Be with us as we travel, join us in this journey, and help us see and hear you always. Amen.
Read: John 2:1-11
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.
When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, βThey have no wine.β
And Jesus said to her, βWoman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.β
His mother said to the servants, βDo whatever he tells you.β
Now standing there were six stone water jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to them, βFill the jars with water.β And they filled them up to the brim.
He said to them, βNow draw some out, and take it to the chief steward.β So they took it. When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom and said to him, βEveryone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now.β
Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
Ask: Have you ever been to a wedding? What was is like?
In Jesus' time, a wedding was a celebration that could go on for days. And anyone who could put on a party like this would have a batch of servants, including, a wine steward who would keep the wine flowing. So running out of wine was really awkward.
Ask: Why do you think Jesus and his mother disagreed on if he could help them?
Have you ever had an adult tell you that you could do something you werenβt sure about? Maybe a coach or a teacher that encouraged you to do something difficult? What did it feel like when you successfully did the thing?
How can you encourage someone to do hard things this week?
Finish with Prayer:
God, thank you for making us a family. Help us support one another this week.
God, today we thank you for: (something or someone youβre grateful for)
God, today we need your help with: (something hard or difficult you need to do)
God, today please be with: (someone who may be sick, sad, or hurt)
We ask all this in Jesusβ name.
Amen
