President for the Day (president’s day ‘25)

Open with Prayer: God, we thank you for this time together, for the technology that makes it possible, and the hearts that connect us. Be with us as we travel, join us in this journey, and help us see and hear you always. Amen.

Read: Isaiah 57:14-15

It shall be said,
‘Build up, build up, prepare the way,
remove every obstruction from my people’s way.’
For thus says the high and lofty one
who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
I dwell in the high and holy place,
and also with those who are contrite and humble in spirit,
to revive the spirit of the humble,
and to revive the heart of the contrite.

Ask: On President’s Day, we remember and honor the Presidents who have served our country. What President has had the biggest impact on you?

Like this passage in Isaiah, a President promises help and healing to their country. Who do you think most needs help in our country today? Who do you most want God to help?

If you could be President for the day, what would you do?

What do you think it means to be “contrite and humble in spirit,” both at home and at school?

(Parents and caregivers, we know our country is wrought with division. Consider reading a book like Stamped (For Kids) for some new thoughts on history, including several Presidents).

Finish with Prayer:

God, thank you for being with us on President’s Day.

God, today we thank you for: (something or someone you’re grateful for)
God, today we need your help with: (something hard or difficult you need to do)
God, today please be with: (someone who may be sick, sad, or hurt)
We ask all this in Jesus’ name.

Amen
