Serve One Another

Open with Prayer: God, we thank you for this time together, for the technology that makes it possible, and the hearts that connect us. Be with us as we travel, join us in this journey, and help us see and hear you always. Amen.

Read: “Thanksgiving Prayer” from Songs of Our Hearts, Meditations of Our Souls

This Thanksgiving, let those of us who have much and those who have little gather at the welcoming table of the Lord. At this blessed feast, may rich and poor alike remember that we are called to serve one another and to walk together in God's gracious world. With thankful hearts, we praise our God who like a loving parent denies us no good thing.

Ask:
What are some of your favorite memories of Thanksgiving Day?
What do you think it means to gather at the welcoming table together?

Today we practice thankfulness: name three things you’re thankful for today. What’s one thing you can do to serve another person today? What’s something your family can do to serve those who do not have as much as you do?

(Parents and caregivers, there are a bunch of great ideas in this article about helping kids express gratitude. Check it out!)

Finish with Prayer:

God, thank you for being with us on Thanksgiving Day.
God, today we thank you for: (something or someone you’re grateful for)
God, today we need your help with: (something hard or difficult you need to do)
God, today please be with: (someone who may be sick, sad, or hurt)
We ask all this in Jesus’ name.

Amen
