Ch-Cha-Cha-Changes

Open with Prayer: God, we thank you for this time together, for the technology that makes it possible, and the hearts that connect us. Be with us as we travel, join us in this journey, and help us see and hear you always. Amen.

Read: Luke 9:28-36
Jesus took with him Peter and John and James, and went up on the mountain to pray. And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly they saw two men, Moses and Elijah, talking to him. They appeared in glory and were speaking of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. Now Peter and his companions were weighed down with sleep; but since they had stayed awake, they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. Just as they were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, ‘Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah’—not knowing what he said. While he was saying this, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were terrified as they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, ‘This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!’ When the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and in those days told no one any of the things they had seen.

Talk:
Why do you think Jesus’ clothes became dazzling white?

Who was Elijah and why did he appear? (he was a prophet in Old Testament times and he was passing on his role as prophet to Jesus.)

Why was Moses there? (he was an Old Testament leader who led his people out of bad times into good times. Hewas there to symbolize that Jesus would bring his people out of bad times and into good times.)

Why do you think Peter wanted to build homes there on top of the mountain for Jesus, Moses, and Elijah?
Have you ever experienced something so wonderful that you never wanted it to end? What was it?

God said “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!” what was important about this message for the disciples?
What is important about this message for us?

How do you think Jesus felt about hearing God say that?
How would you feel if you heard God saying that about you?

Finish with Prayer:

God, thank you for loving us and for loving Jesus. .

God, today we thank you for: (something or someone you’re grateful for)
God, today we need your help with: (something hard or difficult you need to do)
God, today please be with: (someone who may be sick, sad, or hurt)
We ask all this in Jesus’ name.

Amen
