An in-person retreat September 27 - 29
at The Bishop’s Ranch

About the Retreat:

Please join us for this very special Clergy Retreat, the last retreat that Bishop Marc will have with the clergy of the diocese.  Due to a very generous donor in honor of Bishop Marc’s service as bishop, this retreat will be FREE for all clergy staying at the Bishop’s Ranch! Registration is free and is based on double occupancy. In addition, there will be some very special “extras” this year for all who are attending. Enjoy time with colleagues and friends with lots of time built into the schedule for relaxing, conversation, and fun.  We are thrilled to announce that Bethany Dearborn Hiser will be our guest speaker, and we so excited to have Theodicy Jazz Collective joining us for very special musical offerings!

This retreat is free for our clergy. However, in lieu of the retreat fees, please consider donating to the Bishop Marc Andrus Environmental Stewardship Fund at the Bishop’s Ranch. This fund will be used for environmental stewardship, habitat restoration, fire fuels reduction, and more. Information Here.

About our Retreat Leaders:

Because this has been such a hard few years of pandemic, anxiety, and stress, we are pleased to welcome as our guest speaker Bethany Dearborn Hiser who has written the book From Burned Out to Beloved: Soul Care for Wounded Healers.

Many ministry workers and helping professionals would say that self-care is important and yet in practice feel that it is one more thing to do, for which they don’t have time. They may be encouraged to take care of themselves, but that is often ineffective without a deeper understanding of secondary trauma and other internal barriers to actually engage in meaningful self-care.

Based on her book, Bethany will explore the reasons for holistic trauma-informed soul care as well as the internal barriers to taking care of ourselves. In our time together, she will integrate discussion questions, grounding activities, trauma research, recovery tools, contemplative practices, and other spiritual disciplines. All retreat attendees will receive a copy of her book.

Theodicy Jazz Collective is the nation’s foremost liturgically based jazz ensemble! They will be joining us to lead worship as well as offering a special workshop on multi-cultural music. To get a sample, check out this concert in Cincinnati for the Episcopal Church’s Concert for the Human Family series. And here is a very recent story of the National Endowment for the Arts grant that Theodicy Jazz Collective has just received.
